May be you thought this was going to be information about us. Well that was your perception, and on this page you will find a heap of links that will allow you to explore the subject of perception in greater depth: After all it is important to understand how what we take for granted as giving us an accurate and indisputable understanding of the world, isn't indisputable or accurate. Of course if you start to wonder how you can understand about perception by using your imperfect perceptions you had better just stop now, before it is too late!.
So to get you started try Perception Lab
In the lab, we investigate the many facets of face perception...What makes one person appear more trustworthy and cooperative than another? What is the relationship between health and attractiveness, and which physiological factors influence this relationship? How big do differences between facial characteristics have to be for us to perceive them? These are just a few of the topics we're interested in.
If you are brave you can even click on the participate button and find out how attractive you are. Mirror, mirror on the wall...
So maybe you fancy taking a look at how the world views perception, and so here is a random sample of images. Where you go from here is up to you!
If you are in need of some serious academic understanding of perception then look no further than i-perception the open access journal of human, animal and machine perception. If you aren't looking for something serious then I would avoid it and try Science Daily instead. Ignore the ads and go to the headlines.
Whilst looking at how perception works is really fascinating, we can gain an understanding of how we perceive the world around us by how we act and react to it and the diversity of response between people. It can appear to be a crazy world out there, but just how crazy requires some serious investigation so here is a helping hand from us. As humans we have a drive to understand and explain the world around us and our interest in this stuff probably tells us more about ourselves as humans than it does about the world around us. So find out about the unexplained, if that isn't a tautology! This could keep you busy for hours.
All investigation into the world around us isn't wacky, although the world of science seems pretty wild as a glance inside the usual science magazines will reveal. But rather than the usual suspects here is an on line science site science 2.0 with the true spirit of the internet.
Enough science. The search for rational explanations is only half the story, as our perception of the world more often elicits an emotional interpretation and response. So where better to look to begin to understand it than the vast variety of artistic work. We have picked out some diverse sources that we like and that are not the usual on line galleries. We hope you find something that inspires and intrigues you.
